I deeply appreciate the people of Michigan. I love their grit; I love the way they face life; I love the family values they have; And you Tigers fans are the greatest fans of all. No question about that.

Ernie Harwell is Baseball. (via jessicaboryn) (via fuckyeahmichigan)

Michiganders facing life with true grit: Keepin’ It Alive Out There!

Ernie Harwell’s farewell tonight means much to generations of Detroit Tigers fans
DETROIT — Ernie Harwell’s tribute at Comerica Park tonight will catch the attention of even the most casual fan — and has plenty of people welling up even in anticipation.
It is hard to imagine a more beloved figure in Michigan. His silken voice calling Tigers games, his kindly manner and his graciousness with everyone he meets helped establish him as a legend beyond the broadcast booth.
Even more than that, the magic of Harwell is how he connects us — not just now, but through the generations.
Players are attached to eras. My grandfather, who helped instill my love for the Tigers, watched Hank Greenberg and Charlie Gehringer play. My father loved Norm Cash and Dick McAuliffe. My favorites were Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker.
But we all listened to Harwell call games. His era spanned eras.
Tonight, Harwell will address the team, and the media, and at some point, address the fans.

Ernie: Thanks for KEEPIN’ IT ALIVE OUT THERE!
